Hezbollah launched a heavy barrage of 140 rockets into northern Israel on Friday, following a vow by the group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, to retaliate against Israel for a recent mass bombing, according to both Hezbollah and the Israeli military.
The rockets were fired in three waves throughout the afternoon, striking multiple sites along the heavily contested border with Lebanon, Israel’s military reported.
Hezbollah confirmed they had targeted several locations along the border using Katyusha rockets, including air defense bases and, for the first time, the headquarters of an Israeli armored brigade.
The militant group stated the attack was in response to Israeli airstrikes on villages and homes in southern Lebanon.
Although Hezbollah and Israel have been exchanging fire almost daily since October 8, a day after the Israel-Hamas war erupted, the intensity of Friday’s rocket attacks marked a significant escalation.
