Germany is set to deliver a new aid package to Ukraine by the close of 2024, according to German General Christian Freuding, as reported by the Bundeswehr.
This support package will include a range of military equipment such as artillery systems, small arms, drones, tanks, and armored vehicles.
A key focus of the assistance is to bolster Kyiv’s air defense capabilities. With Russia intensifying its airstrikes on infrastructure during the colder months, the aim is to help protect civilian facilities and mitigate the impact on living conditions in Ukraine, as well as to address the potential increase in Ukrainian migration to the EU.
By year’s end, Germany plans to provide Ukraine with two batteries of medium-range IRIS-T SLM air defense systems and two batteries of the short-range IRIS-T SLS systems.
Additionally, Kyiv is expected to receive ten self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, along with ammunition, and approximately 30 Leopard 1A5 tanks, which are currently being overhauled by Rheinmetall, the German defense manufacturer. The aid package will also include 400 armored MRAP vehicles, whose specific model is not yet confirmed, as well as advanced artillery systems, including 12 PzH-2000 self-propelled howitzers and four Zuzana 2 self-propelled artillery units.
