In a meeting with Amos Hochstein, a senior adviser to President Biden, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stressed the necessity of military action against Hezbollah to end cross-border violence, the New York Times reports. Gallant argued that only military measures could restore security to Israel’s northern border and allow displaced citizens to return home. This message underscores Israel’s concerns over Hezbollah’s growing alignment with Hamas, particularly following months of intensified clashes.
The U.S., however, expressed skepticism about military escalation. Hochstein suggested that broader military action could provoke a larger regional conflict, advocating instead for diplomatic solutions. Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, clashes continue, heightening fears of a wider war in the region, with Hezbollah and Israeli forces exchanging fire almost daily since the war in Gaza erupted.
